The new Salsa Vaya Custom is a touring bike for the rest of us. Now available custom built from Evo Cycle Works, the new model features a premium double-butted CroMoly steel frame and heavy duty Whiskey No. 5 carbon fork (steel fork also available), nearly indestructable Panaracer TourGuard Plus tires in 700 x 42c, and a superb Sram X9/XX drive train. Built as a "light" touring bike, this model is intended for carrying loads of up to 25 pounds for self-supported or group tours.

This drop bar touring bike seamlessly integrates Sram Apex 10 speed shifters with wide range Sram X9 and XX derailleurs and the new X-Glide super compact 48/32 crank set for easy climbing under load and smooth cruising over the flats. On pavement or off-road through dirt or gravel, the steel frame absorbs much of the road chatter, offering a comfortable ride even after many hours in the saddle.

Offered in eight sizes, the Salsa Vaya Custom comes complete with front and rear racks, SKS polycarbonate/alloy fenders and a compact tool kit. Begin your adventure today!

Arguably the most innovative bicycles around today are the new gravel grinders. This is an entirely new concept in the bicycle world. Part cyclocross but without the competitive edge, part road bike but without the skinny tires, these are go-anywhere, do-anything bikes. The new Cress CX builds on these qualities with a heavy duty carbon frame and fork, 700c Vuelta HD enduro wheels, 35c medium tread Kenda Kwick tires and internal cable routing. Add to this mix a sturdy Shimano 105, 9 speed drive train, and you have an incredibly reliable bicycle.

Available in five sizes with either cantilever or disc brakes, this is a bike that is meant to get dirty! The two bikes pictured were custom built for a local couple who take great joy riding the many dirt trails in the area.

The Lyra offers women riders what the Lumin offered men, including a women specific geometry and a suitable range of sizes from 47 to 56.5 cm, or extra-extra small to large. The super-light frameset includes a carbon seat post, weighs in at only 1330 grams, and is available is sleek matte white or matte black. Female friendly features include a "short and shallow" Ritchey Pro Logic drop bar and Lizard Skin DSP extra thick bar tape for a superb grip.

Geometry is critical. The 49 cm demo model offers a 510 cm Effective Top Tube (ETT), an appropriate reach solution for an estimated two-thirds of women riders, without compromising high speed stability. The Lyra demo model offers the Ultegra 11 groupset, ice gray cables and celeste green highlights. At 15 pounds for the complete build, this is a bike that accelerates like a race horse and flies up hills with minimal effort.

The Terran is the latest version of the popular carbon hard tail 29er mountain bike, and features the latest advances in single track biking. The demo model includes a Rock Shox air suspension fork, Race Face Cinch direct-mount cranks, a Sram X9 derailleur/shifter combination, an expanded 11-42t cassette and tubeless wheels and tires. At just 24 pounds, this is one of the lightest high performance 29er mountain bikes available. This 29er is designed for fast and flowing single track, steep climbs, muddy to dry conditions and semi-technical terrain.

The Lumin R was designed and built for a Masters class competitive cyclist who races with one of the military teams. Starting with a 58 cm Lumin carbon frame, Ultegra 11 groupset and Reynolds R4 carbon wheels, this bike was built-up for a powerful rider and designed for speed. The client selected a Selle SMP saddle and black Lizard Skin DSP bar tape for maximum grip. The fitting was crucial since we were aiming for maximum power transfer, low center of gravity and minimal aerodynamic drag.

The Lumin was designed to power up in a flash and maintain stability at high speeds. The carbon frame offers a compliant ride with great cornering stiffness. The Lumin is available with a variety of groupsets, but the demo offers the Sram Rival group with "double-tap" shifters and the super smooth WiFli rear derailleur. Reynolds Solitude SE wheels contribute an extra degree of confidence especially over rough road surfaces and sharp curves, while the Selle Italia C2 saddle and sublimated blue highlights add a degree of comfort and a touch of flare.

Somewhere between mountain biking and cyclocross is the backyard domain of monster cross. Built to take a beating over single track and dirt access roads, these drop bar bikes offer dirt tread tires in wide widths, disc brakes and no suspension. The Synth features an aluminum 29er frame and 9er wheels with cable actuated road disc brakes and a heavy-duty carbon fork. This bike offers Shimano 105 and CX drive components and Hutchinson Python tires. A super duty version of the new gravel grinders, you will not find a bike like this at your local bike shop.

There are fat bikes everywhere now, and then there is the Jersey Joe super fat. Built primarily as a snow bike, the Jersey Joe offers a new standard in lightweight fat riding. Offering a Toray T700 carbon frame and T800 carbon wheels, the Joe features massive 4.8 inch tires with 135 and 197 mm thru axles front and rear, a powerful Sram X9 drive train configured for 1 x 10, and the latest Race Face Cinch direct-mount crankset. The tires are Vee Rubber Snowshoe XLs for superb grip throughout the winter. The Jersey Joe will blow past anything else on the snow, or take it to your local single track and pile on the momentum and the speed.

The Express Commuter is a new direction for Evo Cycle Works, and represents a growing trend toward bicycle commuting in the United States. The client was moving to the Washington DC area from California, and wanted an all-weather commuter bike for functional and recreational use. With no intention of owning a car, this bicycle became his wheels.

We began with a disc brake 7005 aluminum hybrid frame and heavy duty carbon fork, added a triple sealed Ritchey Pro headset, sealed bearing FSA RD 460 disc wheels, Velo Orange fenders and 32c Michelin City tires for summer and fall. In the winter we will swap in a set of Schwalbe Marathon 700x35c studded tires to conquer the icy, slushy roads typical in this part of the country. For night riding, the bike will light up with full tire reflective strips and Fiks Hexalite reflector frame strips on the downtube, front and rear, and rechargeable Nite Rider head and tail lights.

But the disc brakes and hybrid drive system really make this bike stand out. The Avid BB7 road disc brakes are smooth as silk and completely immune to weather conditions, while the drivetrain combines precision Sram Rival Powerglide cranks in the front with a wide range 11-32t cassette and hardy X5 rear derailleur in the rear. Shifting is controlled by a pair of 10 speed Sram X5 trigger shifters for unparalleled dependability.

The original plan was to build a carbon version of a modest aluminum 29er hardtail bike the client was considering. But as we began working through the project outline and considering the various options, the build gradually morphed into a high performance, super light edition of the Evo Terran.

Beginning with a 15.5 inch 3k matte frame for proper fit, the client selected a 1 x 10 drive featuring a Race Face 32t Narrow Wide chain ring and Sram X7 Type 2 clutched derailleur for precision shifting, and eliminating the need for chain guards. Internally routed hydraulic disc brakes along with a  carbon bar and seat post offer clean lines and a minimal weight penalty. The Rock Shox Reba Solo Air suspension fork with Xloc remote control and 15 mm maxle is perfectly matched to the carbon fiber frame.

Finally, the selection of top-end tubeless wheels and tires produces superior performance combined with significant weight savings. In the end this carbon 29er super light weighs in at a mere 22.8 pounds fully equipped for some serious trail riding!

The client was an experienced mountain biker accustomed to a full suspension aluminum trail bike, and looking for a lightweight carbon XC bike. He was also quite tall with very long legs. The Terran is a version of last year's carbon 29er Ultralight.

We selected a 21 inch frame with a glossy finish, angular tubes and external hydraulic hose routing. The custom build features a Rock Shox Reba RL dual air suspension fork with remote pop-loc compression control, and Avid Elixir 1 hydro brakes with self-cooling Ashima air rotors.

A tapered head tube and wide 690 mm 7050 AL flat bar provide stability and proper fit. The custom 1 x 9 drive is controlled by a single Sram X9 shifter, and transfers power via Race Face cranks with precision adjusted chain line across the 83 mm spindle. Xero all mountain wheels and Continental Trail King 29 x 2.2 tires provide strength and traction on most any kind of terrain.

The Specialized Stumpjumper FSR and its newer versions are among the lightest full suspension mountain bikes ever produced in aluminum. This 2012 build began with a 2007 frame and Fox Triad shock. First step, a replacement set of suspension bearings.

Components complementing the M5 AL frame include a Rockshox Tora 318 solo air 120 mm fork, and a Truvativ/Sram 2 x 9 drive setup. The external bearing Stylo cranks, Stylo "World Cup" bar, and mixed hydraulic and mechanical brakes offer excellent performance and minimum weight.

Serrated brake rotors offer cool and consistent braking, while premium Sram 990 cassette and 991 chain provide super power transfer and exceptional shifting.

Maxxis Larsen 26 x 2.3 tires mounted on Sun Ringle SOS/XT wheels were selected for speed and grip over varied terrain. The result is a do-it-all, full suspension XC bike that will conquer even the most technical trails.

The client came with cyclocross experience, a limited budget and a frequent woman cyclist's challenge regarding fit. We began with a dedicated cross frame of 49 cm and configured the build for proper reach.

This AL 6066 Fantom Pro Cross frame weighs just 4.5 pounds including the cross-dedicated carbon fork. The build integrated a Shimano Dura Ace partial group from the client's previous bike, including rear derailleur, cassette and STI shifters, all reconditioned for the build.

In-line top cross brake levers were a particular challenge due to the narrow 40 cm cockpit, as was maintaining the brushed aluminum and white color scheme. A Truvativ Elita 50/36 crankset, carbon seatpost, Avid Shorty cantilever brakes, and client-selected Selle San Marco Spid WSD saddle completed this custom build.

The client had been riding an older full suspension mountain bike which he had locked out, preferring the rigid ride, and wanted to move up to a 29er. The challenge was fit, and after taking some careful measurements, we settled on a 15.5 inch Motobecane aluminum frame suitable to the budget.

The one extravagance was the Exotic rigid carbon fiber fork to keep the front end light for enhanced lifting and "manuals" through technical terrain. The client selected the same 1 x 9 drive set-up seen on the 29er Ultralight, preferring the simplicity of a single derailleur.

A reconditioned Truvativ Stylo crankset kept us within budget, along with Avid BB7 mechanical disc brakes with resurfaced rotors. Ice gray Jagwire cables add a bit of style to this build, as the Crankbrothers low-rise 29er bar in 670 mm width contributes full-body power and control.

A hybrid is the perfect bicycle for getting around town, treks along favorite bike paths, and even commuting to work. The rider sits comfortably upright, rolls along on smooth urban tires and climbs hills with ease with a 24 speed drivetrain.

This custom build combines a recycled Trek Alpha aluminum 7.1 frame and modest components with close attention to certain details including: plush grips and saddle, easy to use Sram X-4 shifters, powerful Tektro mini-V brakes, and a heavy duty carbon fiber fork for carrying extra loads.

An adjustable stem and solar rechargeable headlight add flare and function, while a rear rack, removable cargo bag and tail light make this bike both practical and fun to ride.

At the heart of this 29er cross-country bike is the AL 7005 series Orbea compact frame, enabling the bike to maneuver through tight switchbacks and fly through rock gardens. Complementing the ultralight frame is a Rock Shox Reba dual air suspension fork for silent dampening over the most gnarley terrain.

A premium component group includes a Race Face Deus crankset and stem, Race Face chainring and lock-on grips, and Avid Elixir hydraulic brakes paired with air-lite rotors.

The 1 x 9 drive is "mountain geared" with a 28t front chainring and 12-36t rear cassette for maximum climbing power and speedy shifting. The result is a bike that excels at aggressive climbing and blasting across the flats. Transferring power to the ground is a set of Continental Trail King tires mounted on WTB All-Mountain Speed Disc wheels.

Experience the freedom of single-speed trail biking, and do it with style in stealthy black on black! This Leader AL frame is a bombproof, flat top tube design for 26 inch wheels, and was custom refinished in glossy hammered black and clear coat.

At just 20 pounds, this is one of the lightest trail bikes you will ever ride. The full rigid design features a lightweight Mosso AL 7005 mountain fork, carbon stem and massively knobby Felt XOM Multi-Trail tires, size 26 x 2.3.

The super light front end of this bike offers exceptional manual "lift" so that the front wheel is easily "lifted" over obstacles. Most components are recycled or "new-old" stock including the refinished frame, reconditioned Avid BB7 brakes and rotors, Shimano Octalink cranks, carbon stem and Origin 8 chain tensioner.
