Salsa Vaya Custom: A Touring Bike for Everyone

So you're not interested in touring the Himalayas? But still have a desire to travel by bicycle? The new Salsa Vaya Custom is a touring bike for the rest of us. Now available custom built from Evo Cycle Works, the new model features a premium double-butted CroMoly steel frame and heavy duty Whiskey No. 5 carbon fork (steel fork also available), indestructable Panaracer TourGuard Plus tires in 700 x 42c, and a superb Sram X9/XX drive train. Built as a "light" touring bike, this model is intended for carrying loads of up to 25 pounds for self-supported or group tours.

This drop bar touring bike seamlessly integrates Sram Apex 10 speed shifters with wide range Sram X9 and XX derailleurs and the new X-Glide super compact 48/32 crank set for easy climbing under load and smooth cruising over the flats. On pavement or off-road through dirt or gravel, the steel frame absorbs much of the road chatter, offering a comfortable ride even after many hours in the saddle.

Offered in eight sizes, the Salsa Vaya Custom comes complete with front and rear racks, SKS polycarbonate/alloy fenders and a compact tool kit. Begin your adventure today!

Cress CX: Carbon Gravel Grinder

If you are a road cyclist, you probably prefer a lightweight, fast bicycle. A mountain biker likely prefers a suspension rig with beefy tires. What if you could have a little of both in a single bicycle? This is the new Evo Cress CX. Part cyclocross and part gravel grinder, this carbon frame bicycle is as capable on-road as it is off-road. Starting with a carbon frame and heavy duty carbon fork designed to handle the rigors of dirt trails and gravel roads, the Cress CX features Vuelta HD 700c wheels, 35c Kenda Kwick multi-track tires, and a sturdy Shimano 105, 9 speed drive train. Available in five sizes with either cantilever or disc brakes.

This is a bike that is meant to get dirty! With that in mind, internal cable routing protects exposed inner cables from the elements and makes cleaning a breeze. Best of all, the selection of tires is intended to provide a smooth run on pavement and a grippy bite in the dirt.

Lyra: A Road Bike for Women

After almost a year of research and discussions with carbon frame manufacturers, we are pleased to offer a women's carbon road bike worthy of the Evo name. The Lyra is the women's alternative to the Evo Lumin and offers a geometry that will suit an estimated two-thirds of women riders. The LTK-118 is considered a "super light" frame at just 1180 grams (2.6 pounds) for the frame set including seatpost. It will be available in sleek matte white or matte black and offered with a variety of group sets. We have discussed on this website the issue of "women's specific geometry" and the pros and cons of this designation. However, it remains true that for about two-thirds of American women, frames with shorter reach will fit better.

The Lyra demo for example, is considered extra small at 49 cm and has an Effective Top Tube (ETT) of 51 cm. It will fit most women who are 5' 2" to 5' 4". Most importantly the proportionate ETT will mean comfortable reach to the handlebar and control levers. The Lyra demo is outfitted with a Shimano Ultegra 11 group set for a complete bicycle weighing in at just 15 pounds. Finally, it is available in six sizes from 49 to 59 cm for 700c wheels, and a 47 cm size for 650c wheels.

Jersey Joe: All Season Super Fat Bike

Look around, fat bikes are everywhere. And they are especially fun in the snow. But massive aluminum frames and wheels create a serious weight problem, and many of the low-end models can exceed 40 pounds. That's a lot of weight for 4 inch tires and modest components. So when we set out to build an Evo fat bike, we researched the latest standards and minimized weight as much as possible. The result is the Jersey Joe super fat bike.

This all carbon rig consists of a Toray T700 carbon frame and Toray T800 carbon fork and wheels. The latest standard called for 4.8 inch tires and 135 mm and 197 mm front and rear spacing, respectively. We equipped the Joe with premium components including Race Face Turbine cranks with the Cinch direct-mount chainring system, and a Sram X9 clutched rear derailleur and matching shifter for a 1 x 10 drive. And of course, all-season cable actuated Avid BB7 disc brakes with 160 mm and 180 mm rotors front and rear. And snow tires! Vee Rubber Snowshoe XL's to be precise. So no matter how cold or wet the conditions, or how deep the snow, this bike will perform flawlessly.

The Jersey Joe is the perfect snow bike, or take it to your local trails and shred some single track. Even at 26 pounds, this bike will build momentum quickly and tear through the corners without breaking stride or reducing speed. Several of the races at this year's Cranky Monkey series in Maryland were won by riders on fat bikes. No kidding. So pay attention! There's a new kind of bike in town, and it is a serious bicycle. The demo is available today. Test riders wanted!

Terran 29er: All New for 2016

You may have seen this bike on a trail network near you, but this is an all new model fresh from the Evo workshop. Utilizing the same FR 202 carbon frame as the earlier version, this 2016 model features advanced technologies including a Sram X9 clutched rear derailleur for the 1 x 10 drive system, Race Face Turbine cranks with a Cinch mounted 30t Narrow Wide chain ring, and an expanded 11-40t rear cassette. This permits the 1 x 10 system to operate with a gear range similar to a traditional 2 x 10 set-up, but with less hardware and fewer complications.

The new Terran incorporates a Rock Shox air suspension fork with 15 mm thru axle and Tubeless Compatible System tubeless wheels and tires from WTB. The 29 x 2.2 WTB Bronson tubeless tires may be run at lower pressure than conventional tires with tubes, offering improved traction while virtually eliminating flats, and are also considerably lighter.

Certain more subtlte features contribute to a lightweight nimble ride, including a super stong type 2014 aluminum 29er handlebar, 660 mm wide with a 5 degree back sweep for comfortable all-day rides, lock-on Odi mountain grips and a Ritchey Pro Carbon seat post.

So the Terran is back, now better than ever. Cross country mountain biking at its best.
